| WHAT WE DO 1. These two lessons, each hand taking approximately - 1/2 hour to teach, may be divided into 8 mini lessons teaching each finger separately. A mini lesson takes approximately 6 - 7 minutes, and can be viewed more than once. 2. Students may use the tool bar to personalize the screen color background as well as the color of the letters. While it's fun for all children to experiment with color, some may actually experience improved visual perception and clarity. 3. The delete and backspace buttons have been inactivated. By doing this the right hand can remain on the keyboard avoiding the starting and stopping motion which interrupts the learning process, misdirects the students focus and the desire to constantly correct mistakes. |
WHAT WE DON'T DO
1. We do not grade or count the number of incorrect letters pressed. 2. We do not have timed-speed tests. If intrinsic motivation is one key to a child's creativity, the crucial element in cultivating it is time: open-ended time for the child to savor and explore a particular activity or material to make it his own. 3. We do not establish grandiose expectation for a child's performance. This often ends up instilling aversion for a subject or activity. Unreasonably high expectations often pressure children to perform within strictly prescribed guidelines. 4. We do not put children in a win-lose situation where only one person in a class can come out on top. 5. We don't hover or record every action taken. |
