CREATIVE WRITING:
Three third grade boys wrote their reactions to the photo.
1. If I were taking
a space walk,
I would be
both terrified
and so happy.
I would be smiling
for the rest of my life.
but my parents
would probably faint.
2. If I were flying in space,
I would be excited.
Also I would want to go
because not many people
get to go there.
3. If I were looking down in Space,
I would feel scared
because it is like
Just sitting in mid-air.

The Missing Arrow
Chapter 1
The Missing Arrow
by Hadassah Benson
“Wow!” shouted Rika. “It’s not every day you’re asked to solve a mystery.” Rika, eight years old, and her eleven year old sister, Esther, were on their way home from a secret meeting with Sergeant Tiller about a new case.
“It’s a tough one,” Esther admitted. “But that won’t stop us.”
“What arrow is missing and we’re suppose to find?” asked Rika. “I mean, he did say arrow, didn’t he?”
Esther rolled her eyes. Whenever her little sister is asked to solve a case, she stops listening and imagines herself as a hero.
“Not what.” her sister answered. “Who”
“I don’t get it.”
“You know nice Mr. Arrow? He disappeared and no one can find him. Not even his family. The police think he’s kidnapped.”
Esther sighed, “We’re home” she said “Come on Rika, thanks for the ride Yakov.”
“Anytime” replied the family driver smiling.
When they got in the house they decided if they’re aloud they should go to Michal Arrow’s work in Manhattan were he was last seen.
“After all,” said Esther, “it’s vacation and Ma is taking us to a museum in Manhattan tomorrow. Why not stop at his work?”
Luckily, their mother said they could stop at the office after the museum.
Early in the morning they davened, ate, and was ready to go. After the museum they went to the office. Near Michal Arrow’s chair Esther fond a note with a picture of an Arrow on it. She read it but had no idea what it said.
Butch’s gang got me in Banff underground arrow
Esther put the note in her pocket. “I know it has to do with Michal Arrow’s disappearance” she thought. Just then Sergeant Tiller walked in.
“This mystery is too dangerous for you to do alone” he said “I decided to let the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew to join”
“Okay” said Rika “I think my Uncle Carl looked like Frank.”
“Fine,” said Sergeant Tiller, “You’ll meet them here, tomorrow at 10:00am”
The next day, after davening, Esther put the note in her pocket “I’m sure they’ll want to see it” she thought.
Finally, they arrived in Manhattan with their brother, Dovid. When they came in the office Nancy Drew, and the Hardy Boys were waiting. After sergeant Tiller discussed the case Frank asked.
“Did you find clues?” Esther nodded.
“A note” she answered.
“May we see it?” asked Joe. Esther dug her hand in her pocket then turned white.
“What is it?” he asked.
“The note!” she cried. “It’s gone!”
Chapter 2
The Mysterious Stranger
“Are you sure you put it in your pocket?” asked Nancy jumping up.
“Positive!” she answered “It could be stolen!”
“Your right” said Dovid. “There was that tall guy with black hair who bumped in to you and ran off.” At this Frank looked excited.
“Could you tell me more about him?” he asked.
“Well,” said Dovid “he was husky and had a scar on his hand.”
“Joe!” Frank said “that guy who walked near us!”
“You’re right! He is the same guy!”
“Who would want a little note?” asked Rika.
“We do.” said Joe “Do you remember anything on the note?” he asked hopefully.
“Well, it looked like this but I think the real paper would help even more.”
Then she drew it. Frank looked at it carefully. “May I take it with me?” he asked.
“Sure,” she answered “I could always make another one.” Esther then made one more note for Nancy. After they left and were about to go in the car Rika said.
“Look! That guy who bumped in to you!” Unfortunately, the guy heard Rika and disappeared. Esther went to the spot were she saw him.
“No clues” she thought glumly “and if there was, it’s New York, I probably not find it”
As she was about to leave she saw something on a table near by. She picked it up and read the note,
Spaldy
3a m 214396 the arrow bg 76543210 butcher order D-
Jed
“Maybe I should call the Hardys and Nancy” she thought “this may be important”
When she got home Esther made the phone call while she waited for them to pick up she felt like someone was watching her. She looked out the window to see a man peering in from the porch. She hung up the phone and went through the side door to the neighbors. She jumped over the fence just in time to see the man jump down the other way. She went down the stairs and raced after him. When they got to the curb he jumped in to a waiting car and drove off.
“At least I have the license plate” she thought as she wrote it on her pocket notebook.
When she got back home she went on the porch. While she was relaxing, she saw a note stuck on the chair. It said…
Mind your own business or you and your friends will be in danger
Quickly, she ran in the house and called the Hardys and Nancy. After telling Joe who picked up the phone what happened he told Nancy and Frank.
We’ll be right over” he said then hung up.
Chapter 3
Wanted Scarman
Finally, Nancy and the Hardys got to the Rosenfelds and they compeered the warning note to the code. It was the same handwriting! They talked about the clues for a while and then the detectives left.
Early the next morning, after davening and eating Esther and Rika with Yaisef to the hotel were Nancy and the Hardys were staying. In 30 minuets, they got there. After a while they made a list of clues.
Clues
~ Jed has scar
~Same handwriting on notes
“That’s all?” said Joe disappointed.
“Well,” said Rika “lets look for more today!”
Yaisef smiled and said “I think I have a clue.”
“What?” everyone asked together.
“Well when we made a stop I heard a guy with arrow picture in his hand mentioning Michal Arrow to a guy with a scar! Before I could hear more they went in store I’m not aloud to enter” he said remembering the non-kosher restaurant.
After talking for a while the Rosenfelds, Nancy and the Hardys went to investigate the spot were Yaisef saw the men talking.
“Let’s go.” said Nancy eagerly.
“Yaisef, Rika and I can’t” said Esther “we’re Jewish.”
“Okay” said Nancy “we’ll go in and find clues and report to you.”
Later, they came out reporting they found no clues.
“Now what?” asked Rika.
“I don’t know” admitted Frank “maybe I should call my father and tell him what we found out.
Later Frank came back excited.
“My farther said the guy with the scar is wanted in Banff and he’s name is Jed Kallahan who wrote one of the notes!”
Soon, the Rosenfelds left and Nancy and the Hardys went to their hotel. While Yakov was driving them Esther looked out the window
“Go slower” she said. Yakov obeyed.
“You could do what you want now” she said still looking out the window “but take the long way home.”
After a few blocks Esther was still looking out the window and Yaisef tensed something was wrong.
What’s wrong Esther?” he asked.
“We’re being tailed!” she said finally.
